Carr Pushes Holy Family University Women's Basketball Past Philadelphia in Regular Season Finale, 80-65 (2/24/2009)
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- Forward Catherine Carr (so. Bernardsville, N.J./Bernards) poured in a season-high 30 points to lead the Holy Family University women's basketball team to an 80-65 in its regular season finale against Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opponent Philadelphia University on Tuesday night at the Campus Center.

The win moves the Tigers record to 25-4 overall and a perfect 18-0 CACC mark. It is the fourth straight year that Holy Family ends the regular season with an undefeated conference record. Holy Family re-entered the USA Today/ESPN/WBCA Coaches Poll at 25 earlier in the day and is third in the NCAA Division II East Region Rankings.

Holy Family has earned the top seed in the upcoming CACC Championship Tournament. The Tigers will host Wilmington (Del.), the fourth seed from the southern division, on Monday, March 2 at 7 p.m.

Center Christine McCollum (jr. Abington, Pa./St. Basil's Academy) added 17 points, seven assists and seven rebounds in the victory. Forward Melissa Brooks (sr. Levittown, Pa./Neshaminy) contributed 14 points and six boards. Guard Lauren Peters (fr. Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks W.) dished out seven assists.

Guard Taylor Magnus led Philadelphia (17-10, 12-5 CACC) with 15 points in a reserve effort. Center Jessica Romano recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Forward Kate Brennan scored 11 points, while guard Steph Agger had 10 points.

The Tigers opened the game by outscoring the Rams 37-9 in the opening 14 minutes. Carr (13) and Brooks (12) combined to score 25 of those points. Holy Family led at the half, 46-22.

Carr and Brooks opened the second half by hitting jumpers to allow Holy Family to regain a game-high 28-point lead (50-22) with 19:07 left. Philadelphia cut into the lead with nine straight points to make the score 50-31. The Tigers took a 26-point lead (58-32) after a brief 8-1 burst. The Rams pulled within 17 (63-46) on a Magnus jumper at the 7:11. Holy Family allowed Philadelphia to get as close at 78-63 with just 44 seconds left.

The Tigers shot 49.2 percent (29 of 59) from the field, including a 53.3 percent (8 of 15) clip from beyond the arc. The Rams were a 40.4 percent (21 of 52) shooting team and hit 62.5 percent (5 of 8) for their 3-pointers. Holy Family was the better rebounding team by a 38-29 margin. Both teams turned the ball over 18 times.
