Holy Family University Men's Basketball Falls to Philadelphia University in Regular Season Finale, 70-62 (2/24/2009) PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- The Holy Family University men's basketball team dropped a 70-62 decision to visiting Philadelphia University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game on Tuesday night at the Campus Center. The Tigers close out the regular season with an 8-19 overall record and 7-9 mark in the CACC. Holy Family is the third seed in the southern division for next week's CACC Championship Tournament. The team will travel to second-seeded Goldey-Beacom for a quarterfinal on Tuesday, March 3 at 7 p.m. Forward Justin Swidowski (fr. Cinnaminson, N.J./Holy Cross) led the Tigers with 16 points, six rebounds and four blocks. Guard Quincy Marshall (sr. Philadelphia, Pa./Martin L. King) dropped 15 points and recorded seven assists. Guard Ceazer Johnson added 13 points. Forward Jawara Stephenson (jr. Baltimore, Md./Cambridge South Dorchester) had a double-double consisting of 10 points and 12 rebounds. Philadelphia (21-5, 13-2 CACC) got a game-high 25 points from forward Malcolm Ingram. Forward Mike Yocum pitched in the win with 16 points and nine rebounds. Guard Russell Frederick poured in 13 points. Guard Marcus Lemon contributed 10 points, eight assists and seven rebounds. The Rams connected on 54.9 percent (28 of 51) of their shots and 36.4 percent (4 of 11) of their 3-point attempts. Holy Family was 46.2 percent (24 of 52) from the field and 38.9 percent (7 of 18) from beyond the arc. The Tigers had a slim 32-30 rebounding advantage. Philadelphia held a 31-30 lead coming out of the locker room to start the second half. The gap grew to nine (43-34) after a 12-4 run to open the half. Swidowski scored four straight points to cut the margin to five (43-38) with 13:37 left. Leading by five (48-43), the Rams broke things open with 10 unanswered points to take a 58-43 advantage at the 6:31 mark. Holy Family got as close as eight down the stretch. The first half was closely contested featuring 13 lead changes and five ties. The Tigers largest lead was five (27-22) after a Pat Kelly (fr. Cape May Court House, N.J./Wildwood Catholic) 3-pointer. Philadelphia led by two multiple times in the opening half. |
