Tuwei Claims Victory as Holy Family University Cross Country Competes at Immaculata Invitational (9/12/2009)
IMMACULATA, Pa. – Fred Tuwei (jr. Nairobi, Kenya/Kaptel) took first place to lead the Holy Family University men’s and women’s cross country teams as they opened the season at the Immaculata Invitational hosted by Immaculata University. The men finished in fifth place, while the women took seventh.

Tuwei claimed his first collegiate individual victory by posting a time of 28:46. Jeff Kinkaid (so. Philadelphia, Pa./Central) was 14th overall and second on the team by completing the course in 30:39. Mike Grubby (jr. Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore) came in 28th place with a 31:49 mark. Carlos Mejia (fr. Philadelphia, Pa./North East) and Patrick Monteith (fr. Philadelphia, Pa./La Salle) were fourth and fifth, respectively, in their first collegiate meet. Mejia’s time was 33:13, while Monteith completed the event in 35:16.

Molly Finnegan (fr. Merchantville, N.J./Camden Catholic) was the Tigers top finisher on the women’s side with a 23rd place effort. Her time was 22:51. Jennifer Schrank (so. Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill E.) had a time of 23:27 for a 30th place finish. Jen Andrews (gr. Frederick, Md./Frederick) completed the event in 46th with a time of 24:42. It was her first collegiate meet. Chelsea Pierson (fr. Pittsgrove, N.J./Pittsgrove) had a 24:52 and a 51st place finish in her rookie effort. Christina Cantatore (sr. Galloway, N.J./Absegami) was the final Tigers point-scorer by finishing in 59th place. Her time was 25:29.

Holy Family cross-country travels to Delaware to take part in the Delaware Invitational on Saturday, September 19 at White Clay Creek State Park in Newark, Del.
