Tuwei Earns Victory to Lead Holy Family University Cross Country at Belmont Classic (10/3/2009)
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Fred Tuwei (jr. Nairobi, Kenya/Kaptel) earned the victory during the men’s race to lead the Holy Family University men’s and women’s cross country teams at the Belmont Classic on Saturday at the Belmont Plateau. The women finished in fifth, while the men took sixth.

Tuwei ran the eight-kilometer course in 26:31.06, breaking his own school record by 11 seconds, to claim his third victory of 2009. He won the race by 57 seconds.

Jeff Kinkaid (so. Philadelphia, Pa./Central) picked up his first top-ten finish of the season by finishing in tenth place with a time of 29:08.69. Carlos Mejia (fr. Philadelphia, Pa./Franklin Towne Charter) recorded a 41st place by completing the course in 32:45.65. Pat Monteith (fr. Philadelphia, Pa./La Salle) came home in 50th by posting a time of 33:43.65. John McFadden (sr. Bensalem, Pa./Father Judge) was the 56th finisher after crossing the line in a time of 34:45.77. Brian Davis (fr. Harrisburg, Pa./Harrisburg) came in 68th place with a time of 37:06.27.

Molly Finnegan (fr. Merchantville, N.J./Camden Catholic) was the top finisher for Holy Family on the women’s side with an 18th place finish and a time of 22:21.42. Jen Schrank (so. Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill E.) and Jen Andrews (gr. Frederick, Md./Frederick) came in 24th and 25th place, respectively, with times of 22:45.48 and 22:48.17. June Cain (jr. Philadelphia, Pa./Martin L. King) completed the five-kilometer course in 24:01.55 for a 38th place finish. Latifah Porter (so. Philadelphia, Pa./Philadelphia High School for Girls) crossed the finish line in the 41st position with a time of 24:17.75. Christine Cantatore (sr. Galloway, N.J./Absegami) ended the day in 46th by posting a 24:32.86. Stephanie Unger (fr. Philadelphia, Pa./St. Basil’s) came home in 52nd with a time of 25:13.06.

Holy Family returns to the Belmont Plateau to compete in the Cabrini Invitational on Saturday, October 10 at noon.
