Holy Family University Women’s Tennis’ Winning Streak Ends After 5-3 Loss at Goldey-Beacom (10/7/2009)
PIKE CREEK, Del. – Twenty-seven days after it was suspended, the Holy Family University women’s tennis team completed its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match against Goldey-Beacom College on Wednesday. The Tigers fell 5-3, ending their winning streak at seven.

The match was suspended on September 16 due to lightning tied at three. On that day, the Tigers won two doubles matches and one singles match. Juliana Victoria-Caldas (fr. Guayaquil, Ecuador/Unidad Educativa Nuevo Mundo) and Jin Querubin (fr. Mississauga, Ontario/St. Joseph Secondary) were 8-4 winners in the No. 1 match over Marina Sales and Blanca Sancho. Linda Piecyk (jr. Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert's) and Chelsea Brown (fr. Philadelphia, Pa./Nazareth) defeated Daniela Pereira and Luciana Pereira, 9-8 (4), in the No. 3 match. The singles point came from Victoria-Caldas, a 6-4, 6-3 winner over Melanie Bonomo in the No. 1 match.

Today, the Lightning took two of the final three points remaining. Sales fought off Querubin in the No. 2 match, 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (2). Sancho was a 6-4, 7-5 winner over Melanie Pulsinelli (sr. Levittown, Pa./Neshaminy) in the No. 3 match. The final match was not completed.

Holy Family is now 8-3 overall and 5-2 in CACC play. Goldey-Beacom improves to 9-1 overall and 5-1 in the conference.

Holy Family concludes its regular season on Thursday, October 8 at Post University at 3 p.m.
