PIKE CREEK, Del. – The Holy Family University women’s tennis team suffered a 5-4 loss to host Goldey-Beacom College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Team Tournament semifinal on Tuesday.

Holy Family, the third seed, is 9-4 after the fall portion of the schedule. Goldey-Beacom, the second seed, goes to 13-1 overall.

The Tigers led the match after taking two of the three doubles matches. Juliana Victoria-Caldas (fr. Guayaquil, Ecuador/Unidad Educativa Nuevo Mundo) and Jin Querubin (fr. Mississauga, Ontario/St. Joseph Secondary) earned a point by defeating Marina Sales and Blanca Sancho in the No. 1 match, 8-4. Liana Lui (gr. Medford, N.J./Shawnee) and Melanie Pulsinelli (sr. Levittown, Pa./Neshaminy) won the No. 2 match after winning a tie-breaker, 9-8, over Melanie Bonomo and Vanessa Velasquez.

On the singles side, Victoria was a straight-set winner against Bonomo, 6-2, 6-3 in the No. 1 match. Querubin rallied for a set down to defeat Sales in the No. 2 match, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.

With the match tied at four, it came down to the No. 4 match between Velasquez and Lui. After splitting the first two sets, the match was moved to Green Bank Park due to darkness. Velasquez fought off Lui to earn a 7-6, 5-7, 6-4 win and gave Goldey-Beacom the win.
