Holy Family University Women’s Basketball Picked Ninth in Division II Bulletin Pre-Season Poll (10/16/2009) PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Holy Family University women’s basketball team is ranked ninth in the Division II Bulletin Preseason Top 25 poll. Holy Family returns three starters, nine players overall, from last year’s squad, which went 26-6 overall and advanced to the NCAA Division II East Region Semifinals for the sixth year in a row. This season, Holy Family will be led by first year head coach Mark Miller, who spent the last three seasons as the head coach at Division III Norwich University. Forward Catherine Carr (jr. Bernardsville, N.J./Bernards) is the reigning Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) player of the year. Carr also was tabbed as a Division II Bulletin All-America third team and ECAC Division II All-Star first team selection. She recorded 15.3 points per game (ppg), 5.9 rebounds per game (rpg), 69 assists, 29 steals and 15 blocks. Carr finished eighth in the CACC in scoring and 11th in assist to turnover ratio (1.08). Center Christine McCollum (sr. Abington, Pa./St. Basil’s Academy) was named to the All-CACC second team last season. She led the Tigers in rebounding (8.3 rpg), steals (49) and blocked shots (38). McCollum also dished out 78 assists. McCollum finished second in the CACC in assist to turnover ratio (1.59), fifth in blocks and ninth in rebounds. Guard Lauren Peters (so. Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks W.) is the other returning starter. In her freshman season, she paced Holy Family with 107 assists and a .438 three-point shooting percentage. Peters also added 8.1 ppg. Peters was the CACC’s second best three-pointer shooter and boasted the third best assist to turnover ratio (1.51). Holy Family will begin the 2009-10 campaign on Sunday, November 15 with a road contest at Bentley at 2 p.m. |
