Tuwei Claims Victory as Holy Family University Competes at CACC Cross Country Championship Meet (10/24/2009)
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Fred Tuwei (jr. Nairobi, Kenya/Kaptel) won the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Cross Country championship at the Belmont Plateau on Saturday afternoon. The Holy Family University men’s team finished sixth, while the women took home eighth.

Tuwei is the first runner from Holy Family to claim the conference title, since cross country became a sport at the school in 2000. He fought through the rain and mud to post a time of 26:57.48 to win the event by 32 seconds. Tuwei, who won his fifth event meet of the season, also was named the CACC runner of the year.

Also on the men’s side, Jeff Kinkaid (so. Philadelphia, Pa./Central) came in 22nd after completing the eight-kilometer course in 29:46.37. Carlos Mejia (fr. Philadelphia, Pa./Franklin Towne Charter) was the 33rd finisher by crossing the finish line in 30:55.42. John McFadden (sr. Bensalem, Pa./Father Judge) ended the day with a time of 32:48.67 to finish in 45th. Brian Davis (fr. Harrisburg, Pa./Harrisburg) and Tyree Morgan (so. Philadelphia, Pa./North East) finished in 63rd and 64th, respectively. Davis posted a time of 38:03.72, while Morgan ran a 38:57.00.

Jennifer Schrank (so. Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill E.) was the Tigers top finisher on the women’s side with a 29th place finish. Her time was 23:08.93. Molly Finnegan (fr. Merchantville, N.J./Camden Catholic) came in 32nd with a time of 23:29.31. Latifah Porter (so. Philadelphia, Pa./Philadelphia High School for Girls) was the 48th place finisher by completing the course in 24:43.19. Christina Cantatore (sr. Galloway, N.J./Absegami) and Jen Andrews (gr. Frederick, Md./Frederick) were the 52nd and 53rd place fninshers, respectively. Cantatore posted a 24:49.23. Andrews was right on her heels with a 24:51.92. June Cain (jr. Philadelphia, Pa./Martin L. King) came home 59th with a time of 25:39.87. Chelsea Pierson ended the day in 63rd position with a time of 26:45.12.

Holy Family will take part in the NCAA East Regional Championship Meet on Saturday, November 7 at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass.
