Corner Kick Sends Holy Family University Women’s Soccer Into CACC Semifinal; Defeats Wilmington, 1-0 (11/3/2009)
PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa. – Forward Dawn Curry (so. Pennsville, N.J./Pennsville) scored on a corner-kick 12:41 into the contest and it was enough to give the Holy Family University women’s soccer team a 1-0 win over Wilmington (Del.) University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship Tournament quarterfinal on Tuesday at Plymouth-Whitemarsh High School.

Holy Family, the fourth seed in the tournament, improves to 11-8-1 overall after the win. The Tigers will take on top seeded Philadelphia University on Thursday, November 5 at 11 a.m. at the Kirkwood Soccer Complex in Wilmington, Del. This is the sixth consecutive semifinal appearance. Philadelphia defeated Holy Family, 2-1 in double overtime, in the regular season match-up on October 29.

Curry was unmarked on a corner kick taken by midfielder Lindsay Fisher (so. Oakford, Pa./Archbishop Wood). She was able to cleanly head the ball into the center of the net for the game’s lone score. It was Curry’s ninth goal of the season.

Goalkeeper Gina Mansi (so. Washington Twp., N.J./Washington Twp.) recorded five saves to earn the win. In the second half, she preserved the shutout by making two diving stops on Wilmington breakaways.

For Wilmington (9-7-2), Brooke Eveler recorded three stops.

The Tigers outshot the Wildcats, 15-13, and held a large advantage in corner kicks, 11-1.
