Holy Family University Women’s Volleyball Takes Out the University of the Sciences, 3-1 (11/3/2009)
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Holy Family University women’s volleyball team took a big step toward earning a playoff berth after defeating the University of the Sciences (USP), 3-1 (25-22, 23-25, 25-14, 25-14), in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match on Tuesday night at the Campus Center.

Holy Family improves its overall record to 13-20 overall and 10-8 in the CACC. The Tigers can clinch a playoff berth by defeating Felician in their final CACC match on Saturday, November 7 at noon at Job Gymnasium. That afternoon, the team will also take on Southern Connecticut in a non-conference match at 2 p.m. Holy Family can also secure a spot if either USP or Wilmington (Del.) University loses their respective final CACC match.

USP is now 9-14 overall and 9-9 in conference play.

The Tigers offense was led outside hitter Katie Hornback (so. Indianapolis, Ind./Heritage Christian) who recorded 13 kills, five service aces and a hitting percentage of .367 (13-2-30). Outside hitter Jill Keeve (so. La Grange, Ill./Lyons Twp.) added nine kills and two blocks. Outside hitters Aly Keihl (so. Pewaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) and Kelsey Ross (so. Flagstaff, Ariz./Sinagua) and middle blocker Brittany La Couture (jr. Ringwood, N.J./De Paul Catholic) all had five kills. La Couture added three service aces and two total blocks. Setter Aimee Drabyn (jr. Avon, Ind./Avon) recorded a match-high 37 assists and nine digs. Libero Jordan Beland (so. Shrewsbury, Pa./Susquehannock) was the defensive leader with 17 digs.

As a team, Holy Family had a hitting percentage of .229 (41-16-109). In the fourth set, the Tigers hit .500 (12-2-20), while causing the Devils to hit -.053 (5-6-19). The team recorded a hitting percentage of .269 (11-4-26) in the third.

For USP, middle blocker Cady Rich led the way with 10 kills. Middle blocker Christine Puschak added nine kills, while outside hitter Kirsten Lechner had seven kills. Setter Sarah Hickman contributed 26 assists. Libero Stacey Wooden and outside hitter Ari Leland both recorded 10 digs.
