Holy Family University Women’s Soccer Returns to CACC Final After 1-0 Win Over Philadelphia (11/5/2009)
NEW CASTLE, Del. – After a year hiatus, the Holy Family University women’s soccer team is going back to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship Tournament final by defeating Philadelphia University, 1-0, in a semifinal game on Thursday at the Kirkwood Soccer Complex.

Holy Family (12-8-3) will make its fifth trip to the conference title game since the 2003 season. In the previous four trips, the Tigers are 3-0-1 – the 2006 title game ended in a 1-1 tie and the team lost on penalty kicks.

On Saturday, November 7, Holy Family will take on Georgian Court University, a 4-0 winner over Dominican (N.Y.) in the other semifinal. Game time is slated for 1:30 p.m. at the Kirkwood Soccer Complex in New Castle, Del. The Lions were 2-0 winners over the Tigers in the first meeting on October 7 in Lakewood, N.J.

The game’s lone goal was scored by forward Dawn Curry (so. Pennsville, N.J./Pennsville) at 27:44. She scored on a free kick with a blast from 25 yards away into the lower left corner of the net. The goal is Curry’s 10th of the season and second of the tournament.

In goal, Holy Family’s Gina Mansi (so. Washington Twp., N.J./Washington Twp.) recorded her fifth shutout of the season by five shots.

For Philadelphia (13-5-3), Kelli Kowalewski came up with four stops. The Rams outshot the Tigers, 12-11, but the Tigers had a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.
