Holy Family University Women’s Soccer Falls to Franklin Pierce, 2-0, in NCAA Tournament (11/13/2009)
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – The Holy Family University women’s soccer team had its 2009 season come to a close after a 2-0 defeat against Franklin Pierce in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday afternoon at the University of Bridgeport.

Holy Family ends the season with an overall record of 13-9-1. The Tigers made their second NCAA Tournament after winning the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) last week. It was the team’s seventh CACC championship, which the most for any team at Holy Family.

Franklin Pierce (17-4-1), the Northeast-10 runner-up, broke the scoreless deadlock with a goal late in the opening half. With 46 seconds on the clock, midfielder Tori Gikas scored on a low-hard shot into the left corner of the net. She was assisted by midfielder Gabriela Demoner.

The Ravens got an insurance goal from midfielder Angelika Johansson, who scored on a breakaway, after receiving a through ball from forward Shannon Mulvey at 89:15.

In goal, Holy Family’s Gina Mansi (so. Washington Twp., N.J./Washington Twp.), the CACC Championship Tournament MVP, did all she could by making eight saves. Franklin Pierce’s Jocelyn Leon stopped one shot. The Ravens outshot the Tigers, 22-2.
