Women's Soccer wins CACC title over Goldey-Beacom 3-0 (11/5/2005)
RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Holy Family needed just 49 seconds to seal the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference title with a 3-0 win over Goldey-Beacom Saturday afternoon in the championship game at Tryon Field.

The Tigers entered the tournament as the number one seed, and finished the regular season as the league championships as well. Holy Family finished the post-season with a record of 13-7-2 and were 10-0-1 in conference play.

Maureen O’Neill (Jr./Philadelphia, PA/St. Hubert’s) scored three goals in the contest to lift the Tigers to the victory. O’Neill was named as the Tournament MVP.

Her first goal was set up by a brilliant pass in front of the goal from Joanna Hampton (So./Philadelphia, PA/Frankford).

Holy Family went up 2-0 at 37:51 when O’Neill scored on passes from Colleen Gregory (Sr./Warminster, PA/Archbishop Wood) and Jamie Wallace (Fr./Bensalem, PA/Nazareth) in front of the net.

O’Neill’s final goal came at 87:52 when she drove from 30-yards out and scored unassisted.

“We focused on our six seniors who have been here for us all season,” HFU head coach Mike Biddle said after the game. “We wanted them to go out as winners.”

All-Tournament members from Holy Family included goalkeeper Kristy Cusick (Sr./Philadelphia, PA/George Washington) who made five saves in the final game Saturday. Gregory, along with Brianne Redelheim (Jr./Philadelphia, PA/St. Hubert’s), and Calli Nagle (Fr./Philadelphia, PA/Little Flower) were All-Tournament selections.

The shutout win by Cusick was her tenth of the season and the second-time she shutout Goldey-Beacom this season.

For the Lightning, Stephanie Steele had four saves on the afternoon. The Tigers outshot Goldey-Beacom 18-7.
