Women's Basketball headed to the NCAA Tournament (3/5/2006) INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Holy Family Women's Basketball team has received a bid to play in the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Tournament which will begin at several regional sites Friday. The Tigers will play in the Northeast Region. The Tigers, who currently have a record of 28-2, received one of the 42-at large bids to the tournament. Holy Family, who was ranked as high as fifth in the Northeast Regional Poll, lost in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference title game Saturday afternoon. Holy Family will face Pace University at 8 p.m. on Friday at Southern Connecticut State University located in New Haven, Conn. Southern Connecticut, who is the top seed in the region, will be the host institution. Pace enters the tournament with a record 21-7. A member of the Northeast-10 Conference, the Setters fell to Bentley in the NE-10 Quarterfinal 67-60 back on February 28. For Holy Family, this is its third straight trip to the NCAA Division II Tournament. The Tigers lost to American International College 76-55 in the first round last season. Fellow CACC member, the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, received the eighth seed and will face host Southern Connecticut State on Friday. The other two games had third-seed American International taking on sixth-seed St. Rose, while second-seed Stonehill will take on seventh-seed New Haven. |
