PHILADELPHIA Pa. – Holy Family rallied from a 2-0 deficit in game one to defeat 13th-ranked C.W. Post 3-2 in the first game of a doubleheader.

In game two, C.W. Post (26-9) scored five early runs, but had to fend off a late Holy Family (18-24) as the Pioneers took the nightcap 5-4.

After C.W. Post took a 2-0 lead after the first three innings, Holy Family tied the score in the bottom of the fourth. Holy Family got on the board when shortstop Stephanie Mongiello (Jr./Levittown, PA/Conwell Egan) scored on a RBI double by leftfielder Rachael Mudry (Sr./Millville, NJ/Millville), which was followed by two-out RBI single from third baseman Alison McBryar (Jr./Fairless Hills, PA/Pennsbury).

The game-winning run came in the bottom of the fifth when catcher Jen Escheman (Jr./Deptford, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) singled home second baseman Sarah Marsteller (Fr./Rising Sun, MD/Rising Sun) with one out.

Amanda Weitman (Fr./Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan) got the win, improving to 1-1 as she pitched 6.2 innings, allowing just one earned run. Bridget Robinson (So./Philadelphia, PA/St. Hubert’s) got the final out to record her first save of the season.

Mongiello finished the game 2-for-3 for Holy Family.

For C.W. Post, pitcher Samantha Yodowitz and designated player Melissa Hippo both went 2-for-4. Yodowitz took the loss, falling to 7-4. She allowed three earned runs and struck out seven.

In the second game, C.W. Post took a 2-0 lead after one inning, then increased the lead to 5-0 heading into the bottom of the sixth.

In the bottom half of the sixth, Holy Family loaded the bases with no outs. Mudry then walked with the bases loaded for the Tigers’ first run of the game. Right fielder Jacklin Coates (Fr./Erial, NJ/Overbrook Regional) then singled to score another run to cut the lead to 5-2.

With the bases loaded, first baseman Jamie Goffney (Fr./Glen Mills, PA/Penncrest) then hit a two-run double with no outs, which lowered the deficit to 5-4. The Tigers had the bases loaded, but could not get a run off of relief pitcher Danielle Stallone.

Stallone got the save, her first of the year, in relief of starter Jackie Sasko. Sasko, who improved to 8-1, allowed four earned runs in five innings. She also struck out eight.

For Holy Family, Goffney was 2-for-4, while Mongiello and Mudry both went 2-for-3.
