Softball splits with Nyack; faces must win games with Dominican Sunday (4/29/2006) NYACK, NY – Holy Family’s playoff hopes took a serious hit Saturday as the Tigers split a critical doubleheader with Nyack. The Tigers took the first game 3-1, but fell in the second game 6-5. With the second game loss, the Tigers fall to 11-9 in the conference with two games remaining. The Tigers must sweep Dominican on Sunday to clinch a playoff spot. If the Tigers only win one of two, the Tigers will be in a three-way tie with Felician and Bloomfield who both are at 12-10. Since the Tigers went 1-1 in both series against Felician and Bloomfield, the tie breaker starts with the best record against Caldwell, who is in first. Caldwell swept Holy Family and Felician, while the Cougars split with Bloomfield. Bloomfield then gets a spot, with Felician earning the second spot via a split against Goldey-Beacom, the third place team. Holy Family was swept by the Lightning. In game one, Holy Family got two hits each from Lauren Armstrong (So./Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown), who had a double and triple. Jen Escheman (Jr./Deptford, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) was 2-for-4 with two singles and a RBI. Jamie Goffney (Fr./Glen Mills, PA/Penncrest) had two singles, while Jacklin Coates (Fr./Erial, NJ/Overbrook Regional) had a two-run single in the sixth inning. Kim Joyce (Sr./Wilmington, DE/St. Elizabeth’s) got the win, striking out three. In game two, Holy Family trailed 4-0 before rallying to take a 5-4 lead into the seventh. Nyack scored both runs in the bottom of the seventh to steal the win. Rachael Mudry (Sr./Millville, NJ/Millville) had a single and a double in the nightcap, while Kim Hockenbrock (So./Eagleville, PA/Methacton) had two singles. Stephanie Mongiello (Jr./Levittown, PA/Conwell Egan) had two RBI. Amanda Weitman (Fr./Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan) took the loss in relief. |
