Women's Basketball to face The College of Saint Rose at 8 p.m. Friday (3/5/2007) NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Holy Family will start its fourth trip in the NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Tournament on Friday as the Tigers will take on The College of Saint Rose at 8 p.m. at James Moore Field House on the campus of Southern Connecticut State University. The Tigers (28-2) are the fifth seed in the upcoming Northeast Regional, which involves teams from the Northeast-10, East Coast and Central Atlantic Collegiate Conferences. Holy Family is making its fourth appearance in four years as a NCAA Division II member. The Golden Knights (21-8), who are seeded fourth and earned an at-large bid from the Northeast-10, will be facing the Tigers for the first time since a 78-54 win on November 23, 1991. The winner advances to Saturday’s semifinal round and will face the winner of top seed and host Southern Connecticut State University (28-2) who is playing eighth seed the University of New Haven (25-5). In the other side of the bracket, second seed Bentley (21-7) takes on seventh seed Stonehill (22-8) while third seed Pace (23-8) tackles sixth seed American International College (21-7). The Tigers are coming off a 68-44 win over Philadelphia in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship contest on Saturday afternoon at Dominican College, while the Golden Knights fell to Pace 78-72 in overtime in the semifinals of the Northeast-10 playoffs back on Friday. Holy Family is led by junior point guard Kelly Killion who is averaging a team-high 14.7 points per game. Killion, the CACC Player of the Year and a three-time All-CACC selection, was also named as the Tournament MVP. Senior center Megan Bauer leads the team in rebounding with nine boards a game, and is second on the team in points per game at 12.7. She was a second-team All-CACC selection. Junior forward Chrissy Kosiek is third on the team in points per game at 10.6, the third Tiger starter to average double figures in scoring. Sophomore guard Melissa Brooks was a third-team All-CACC selection. The Tigers as a team are ranked tenth in the latest ESPN/USA Today Division II Coaches’ Poll and finished a perfect 22-0 in the CACC. Statistically speaking, the Tigers lead all of Division II in field-goal percentage defense as they allow teams to shoot just 30.8 percent from the field during a contest. The Tigers are also second in scoring margin, winning games by an average of 22.9 points, anda are fourth in scoring defense, allowing just 50.7 points per game. Holy Family is 1-3 in NCAA games, winning its first NCAA playoff game last season with a 70-62 win over Pace in the opening round. Holy Family is led by head coach Mike McLaughlin, who holds a 348-54 record in his 12 years at the helm. He was named CACC Coach of the Year for the 11th time in 12 seasons this year. Saint Rose, located in Albany, N.Y., led the NE-10 in scoring as the Golden Knights score 70.8 points per game. Led by junior center Lauren Revesz who scores 15.1 points per game, Saint Rose finished 16-6 in the Northeast-10. Much like Holy Family, Saint Rose has three players who have a scoring average in double figures. Senior guard Linsey Onishuk averages 12.2 points per game, while senior guard Mary Lewis averages 11.7 points a contest. Revesz was a second-team Northeast-10 pick, while Onishuk and Lewis were third-team NE-10 selections. The Golden Knights are led by Karen Haag, who is in her sixth year as coach at Saint Rose. She came to Albany from Wilkes University, where she led the Colonels to the Middle Atlantic Collegiate Conference playoffs three straight seasons. The two teams do share some common opponents. Both Holy Family and Saint Rose have victories over Saint Michael’s, while Saint Rose defeated Bentley as opposed to Holy Family who lost to Bentley by three points.
