Softball swept by Nyack; Faces must win against Wilmington on Sunday (4/28/2007)
NYACK, N.Y. – Nyack took both ends of a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon over Holy Family, with both games needing extra innings to determine the outcome.

In game one, Nyack rallied with two runs in the bottom of the seventh, then scored one run in the ninth for a 4-3 win. In the second game, Nyack (9-26, 6-16 CACC) scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth in a 5-3 win over Holy Family (16-20, 10-10 CACC).

Despite the two losses, Holy Family can still get a berth in the upcoming CACC playoffs with a win over Wilmington and two losses by Dominican, or two wins and a Dominican loss. The Tigers will take on Wilmington Sunday afternoon, while Georgian Court takes on Dominican.

Should Holy Family and Dominican finish tied in the standings, Dominican would get the playoff spot over Holy Family since Dominican swept the Tigers earlier this season.

The first game saw Holy Family strike first with two runs in the top of the fifth inning on back to back home runs from designated player Dolores Brown and right fielder Stephanie Mongiello .

The Tigers then followed with a run in the top of the sixth on an RBI single from Mongiello. Mongiello finished with two RBI in the opener, going 2-for-4 from the plate. Shortstop Kristilyn Obert and Brown also had two hits on the afternoon.

Nyack tied the score in the seventh with on a sacrifice bunt and a fielding error. A fielding error also allowed Nyack to score the game-winning run in the ninth.

Starting pitcher Jody Searfoss took the loss, falling to 11-9. She struck out eight batters and walked three.

In game two, Holy Family trailed 1-0 after three innings, before the Tigers got on the board in the fourth inning with two runs. Brown hit a two-run home run with no outs, her second home run of the afternoon.

After Nyack tied the score in the bottom of the fourth, Holy Family took a 3-2 lead in the top of the seventh as starting second baseman Sarah Marsteller had a RBI double.

Nyack then tied the score with two outs in the seventh, before scoring two runs in the bottom of the eighth to win the game on a walk off home run.

Marsteller finished 2-for-3 from plate, as did starting left fielder Victoria Grayson.

Brown took the loss, falling to 3-5. She struck out three and walked two in a complete game perforance.
