Holy Family University Women’s Tennis Defeats Georgian Court, 6-0; Advances to CACC Championship (10/12/2007)
Philadelphia, PA – The top-seeded Holy Family University women’s tennis team defeated fourth seed Georgian Court University, 6-0, in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) semi-finals on Friday at Philadelphia University.

“Every girl played her ‘A’ game and smart tennis,” said Holy Family head coach Brett Shavitz. “They did what they had to do today.”

The Tigers (11-1)swept the doubles matches. Quena Borres (jr. Larchmont, NY/Mamaroneck) and Shakir Willett (jr. Bellport, NY/Bellport) won the first doubles flight match, 8-1. Liana Lui (jr. Medford, NJ/Burlington County CC) and Lauren Neill (sr. Smith, AL/Smith Station) were 8-0 winners in the second flight. Melanie Pulsinelli (so. Levittown, PA/Neshaminy) and Ashley Berge took the third flight 8-0.

In singles, Willett won her third flight match, 6-1, 6-2. Pusinelli cruised in the fifth flight to a 6-0, 6-0 victoy. Berge ended the match by winning the sixth flight, 6-1, 6-1.

Holy Family was leading in the other three singles matches when play was stopped.

Holy Family faces second-seeded Philadelphia University on Saturday, October 14 at noon for the CACC Championship. The Tigers defeated the Rams on September 6, 5-3, and on September 18, 5-4. The winner receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
