Holy Family University Women's Soccer Falls to Franklin Pierce, 4-0, in NCAA Tournament (11/9/2007)
Smithfield, RI – The Holy Family University women's soccer team's season came to a close with a 4-0 loss to Franklin Pierce in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday afternoon at Bryant University.

“Our goal was to get to this tournament,” said head coach Mike Biddle. We wanted to experience the feel of the NCAA's and we accomplished that goal.”

Midfielder Gabriela Demoner had three of the Ravens goals, while forward Rachel Smith had the other..

Franklin Pierce broke open an even game with a pair of goals in the 13th minute. Smith scored the first goal after the Tigers failed to clear a corner kick. The goal, her fourth of the year, was assisted by back Kelly Weygand at 12:13. The second goal came 21 seconds later when a Demoner shot when off a defender and into the net.

Demoner struck twice in the second half to produce the final margin. Her first goal of the half found its way into the lower right corner of the net in the 52nd minute. The play was setup by forward Mackenzie Bulych. Demoner's final tally came in the 66th minute after a through ball by midfielder Jenna Giardina. The goal was her 26th goal of the season.

In goal, Holy Family's Kelly McGrogan (sr. Philadelphia, PA/St. Hubert's) made 11 saves. Franklin Pierce's Brittany Ester came up with two stops. The Ravens held a 25-2 shot advantage.

Holy Family ends its season with a 14-8 record. The Tigers won the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference for the sixth time in nine years and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time ever.

“We have a lot of work ahead of us to replace our seniors. They carried us a long way,” said Biddle. “I hope that our returning players get the chance to return here in the future.”
