Adelphi University Blanks Holy Family University Women's Soccer, 4-0 (10/1/2008) GARDEN CITY, N.Y. -- The Adelphi University women's soccer team defeated visiting Holy Family, 4-0, in a non-conference match-up on Wednesday night. Midfielder Lauren Slattery opened the scoring 15 minutes into the contest with an 18-yard shot from the left-side. Slattery assisted on the Panthers second and third goals. Adelphi's second goal came just 30 seconds after the second half tap. Forward Caitlin Morrison was responsible for the goal. At 50:26, forward Erin Klimkowski tallied the third goal after a cross from Slattery. Just under five minutes later, midfielder Brianne McDonnell scored the final goal. It was unassisted. Panther keepers Dorothy Connolly and Angela Matinale combined for the shut-out. Connolly started the contest and made three saves in 58:10. Matinale closed out the final 31:50 by making one save. Holy Family's Michelle Giambrone (jr. Barrington, N.J./Seneca) stopped three of the six shots on goal she faced in the first 54:56. Gina Mansi (fr. Washington Twp., N.J./Washington Twp.) finished out the game making four saves on five shots, one of the saves came on a penalty kick. Holy Family is now 3-6-2 overall. Adelphi improves to 6-3-1. Holy Family travels to Bloomfield College for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game on Saturday, October 4 at noon. |
