Holy Family Men's Basketball Has a New Coach

-By Brian Morlock

The Holy Family University basketball team has a new sheriff in town. His name is Alfred Johnson and he's ready to lead the men's basketball team to the promise land. Coach Johnson brings a lot of experience in basketball to Holy Family. From 1984-1990, he coached at Germantown Friends High School. He was also a head coach at St Mary's. Coach Johnson was an assistant coach at Alabama St., Tennessee St., and Manor Jr. College. He spent two weeks at Elizabeth State University, but when contacted by Holy Family, coach Johnson could not help, but jump at the opportunity to return to Philly.

Although Philadelphia has been given a bad name by several reporters, coach Johnson loves this city. "I am ecstatic to be back in Philly, it's a fantastic city, and it will continue to be a hot bid in basketball," said coach Johnson. Philadelphia is a great sports town and hopefully this man can get people in this community excited about the team and enhance the interest of high school athletes into coming to Holy Family.

There is always someone in a persons life that will have an impact on what they are doing. For coach Alfred Johnson, he wanted to become a basketball coach because of his high school coach, David Felsen. "What he gave to us as a team, I wanted to give my team. He taught us a sense of respect, commitment, and how to love the game," said coach Johnson. He always wanted to follow in his coaches footsteps and he has a chance of doing that here at Holy Family.

There are many formulas to winning. Holy Family has been successful over the years and there is no reason to believe the men's basketball team will not become more successful with Alfred Johnson as their coach. If the coach and the team trust each other, there are going to be a lot of teams in trouble.
