Following a pair of close loses, Holy Family
was looking to steer the ship in the right direction and record
their first home win. The Tigers battled the Chestnut Hill
Griffins in a barnburner of a contest. In the first half,
Holy Family shot a sizzling 60 percent (24/40) from the field,
including 66.7 percent from beyond the arc (8/12), to build
a commanding 62-36 lead. The basket seemed as big as a soccer
net. In the second half, the Tigers continued to score, and
eventually won their first home game in the Alfred Johnson
era, 113-86. For the game, Holy Family shot 51.9 percent (41/79)
from the field and a mind-boggling 59.1 percent (13/22) from
the three-point line. Holy Family dominated the glass by out
rebounding the Griffins 50-31, which led to more second chance
points (23-5). The contest featured five players in double
digits in scoring. Junior Bob Presner led the way for the
Tigers, with a team high 26 points (11/18) and 11 rebounds.
Sophomore Ryan Haigh was lights out from the three-point line
(6/9) and had a total of 21 points along with 6 assists and
5 rebounds. Senior Mike Wild provided 20 points, 6 rebounds,
4 assists, and 3 steals. Sophomore Dan Welch supplied 12 points
and 6 rebounds, while sophomore Chris Kozole dished out a
team high 9 assists. In the win, several players contributed
off the bench, including: Freshman Andrew Presner - 10 points,
Senior Nick Dominello - 7 points, Senior Steve Szychulski
- 6 points, Senior Joe Maguire - 3 points, and Sophomore Charles
Hook - 2 points. The game was a complete team effort as the
victory improved the Tiger's record to 4-4 on the season and
snapped their two game losing streak.
