Lady Tigers Earn #3 Seed in NCAA Regional Tournament

The Holy Family University Lady Tigers, who are ranked 19th in the nation in the NCAA Division II, received an at-large bid to the NCAA Division II women's basketball tournament. The Lady Tigers will face Stonehill College, Friday, March 12th at 1:00 pm in the first round of the NCAA tournament at Merrimack College. The Lady Tigers finished the regular season with a 26-2 record. Holy Family lost 74-62 to the University of the Sciences in the championship game of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) tournament, after defeating Teikyo Post University and Bloomfield College in earlier rounds.

The Lady Tigers are led by senior center, Nina Smith (Waterloo, IA). Smith is averaging 19.2 points per game, 8.7 rebounds per game, and is leading the nation in field goal percentage shooting an astounding 69.1 percent. The Lady Tigers tout a very experienced and highly talented backcourt combination that includes senior guard Kate Baun (Southampton, PA), who recently against Georgian Court College scored her 1,000th point of her career, along with being Holy Family's all-time assist leader, and senior guard Keisha Brown (Brigdeton, NJ). Baun is averaging 7.1 points per game and 4.3 assists per game, while Brown is averaging 10.0 point per game, 4.3 rebounds per game. Junior forward Ashley Dunek (Mt. Laurel, NJ) and junior guard Jamie Battinieri (Eddystone, PA) have been key contributors, averaging 12.2 points per game and 11.7 points per game respectively.

The Lady Tigers are currently holding a 28-3 overall record and are under the direction of 9th year Head Coach Mike McLaughlin. The team will travel on Wednesday, March 10th to Merrimack College in preparation for the regional tournament.
