Women's Soccer Team Beats Dominican

-By Brian Morlock, 10/02/2003

In a game where the score does not show, the Holy Family women's soccer team dominated the Dominican team from New York. Although the score was only 1-0, the Lady Tigers controlled most of the action in the Dominican's zone. The goal tender from New York made some outstanding saves to give her team a chance, but they could not seem to mount any offense.

The game was scoreless for the first 20 minutes of action, but Theresa Cirino put the Lady Tigers on the board with 24 minutes left in the first half. This was the lone goal in the game, but it was enough to improve Holy Family's record to 6-3-2.

The Lady Tigers played a great game all around especially on the defensive side of the ball. Coach Joe Mikolajewski said, "On defense we played outstanding." Junior Liza Froncek and sophomore Colleen Gregory were amongst the defensive side of the ball that kept the Dominican from mounting any type of offense. There was not even a shot registered on net the entire game for the Dominican.

Although this was a well played game by the Lady Tigers, they missed out on some opportunities to blow the game open. Coach Mikolajewski said, "We did not capitalize on all opportunities." Maria Karasavas, a senior for the Lady Tigers hit the post twice in the game. She played a nice game, but just ran into some bad luck with the net. Senior Amanda Gibbs also misfired and hit the post once in the game, but thrilled the crowd with some of the moves she put on in the game. If the Lady Tigers were playing a team with a stronger offense, missing out on all those opportunities may have resulted in a loss.
