Holy Family Begins Inaugural Tennis Season
This will be the inaugural season for the Holy Family University
women's tennis program. This year's team will be comprised mostly
of current Holy Family students along with a few incoming freshmen.
The squad will be led by seniors Jaime Hill, Ania and Marta Pawlisewska,
and junior Amanda Wolff. Head coach Albert Stroble feels very confident
with the upperclassman to help build the program.
"Jaime, Ania, Marta and Amanda give us a good core group of
players to build a solid program around. They do all of the little
things that are necessary to be successful." Jaime Hill, a four
year member of the Lady Tigers soccer program brings her competitive
experience to the new program. "Besides being one of our top players,
Jaime brings a competitive attitude and is able to demonstrate to
her teammates how to compete at the collegiate level. Her leadership
and motivation will be crucial to our success and the other ladies
seem to feed off of her. Amanda Wolff is probably our most experienced
player and comes from a very good high school program (St. Basil's
Academy). Ania and Marta played a lot of tennis growing up in Poland
and bring a different type of game to our team."
Team cohesiveness will be an important aspect for the teams' success
in their first season of competition. "Whenever you start a new
program, you need to first learn each others strengths and weaknesses,
likes and dislikes. So far, the girls have been getting along very
well and everyone is out to help each other. The players understand
this and our success will come from teamwork, not individuality"
Recruiting was limited due to the timing of the announcement of
starting the tennis program, but Stroble was able to attract a very
talented freshman to join his squad. Ana Vazquez, the number one
singles player from Cardinal Dougherty High School should compete
for one of the top seeds. "Ana is a very athletic player. She has
very quick feet and has a huge upside to her game."
Holy Family will be competing in a tough dual match schedule against
established teams in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference
as well as competitive non-conference teams. "We will be competing
against tough teams this season, but I feel it is important to play
good teams in order to improve. I plan on teaching the fundamentals
and having a well conditioned team. These two aspects I believe
will lead to our success."
Holy Family will open their inaugural season against cross-town
rival Philadelphia University on September 3rd at Frosty Hollow
Tennis Center in Levittown.
