Using
Blackboard with IE 7 on Windows XP
If you are using IE 7, and the Visual Text Box Editor is not allowing
you to type, you must add Blackboard to your trusted sites. The steps
below will set your preferences in IE7 so that the Visual Text Box
Editor in Blackboard will always work. If the steps below do not solve
the problem then we recommend using Firefox as your browser. You can
download Firefox from http://www.mozilla.com.
Look at the IE7 Status
Bar at the bottom of the IE7 window.
You should see one of three possible icons: a green check mark representing
a Trusted Site, a globe representing the Internet, or a red circle representing
a Restricted Site. If a green check mark appears, then IE7 trusts the Blackboard
server and the Visual Text Box Editor should be working.
If Internet (a globe icon) or Restricted Sites (a red circle icon) appears
instead, then double-click the Status Bar where the Restricted Sites or the
Internet icon appears. The Internet Security Properties box will open.
Click on the Trusted Sites icon under the Select a zone to view or change
security settings heading. Click Sites to open the Trusted Sites box.
The URL for the Blackboard server should appear in the Add this website to
the zone field. If not, enter the URL that is used to access Blackboard in
the field (http://bb2.holyfamily.edu).
The URL for Blackboard at Holy Family does not use SSL security, so make
sure the Require Server Verification (https:) for all sites in this zone
option is unchecked.
Click Add.
Click Close.
Click OK on the Internet Security Properties box.
Verify that the Visual Text Box Editor is now functioning correctly within
the browser.
Using Blackboard with IE 7 on Vista
If you are using the Microsoft Vista operating system the Visual Text Box
Editor must be turned off to type. The steps below will set your preferences
in Blackboard so that the Text Box Editor is disabled.
Log into Blackboard.
On the My Blackboard page, under the Tools module, select Personal Information.
Select Set Visual Text Box Editor Options.
Click the Unavailable radio button.
