In the exhibition, Schlechter presents a series of artworks that trace a specific understanding the artist has of liminal spaces. Schlechter refers to liminal spaces as a place rather than a state or condition. “It is a space where exchanges between the viewer and the image take place, moving the viewer to other realms – be it through a stairway leading into the unknown or via intimate portraits of flowers that seem to reach out and pull you into their depths,” said Schlechter.
Schlechter is a Philadelphia-based artist who has exhibited photography in galleries and cafés both locally and regionally. Her work was recently included in a group exhibition at The Open Hearth Foundation in Washington, DC. She has had solo exhibitions at the Café Twelve and The Highpoint Café, both located in Philadelphia. Schlechter’s current work is comprised solely of digital photography.
