"Mortal Vestige, Immortal Flight" On Display throughout March
The Holy Family University Art Gallery presents “Mortal Vestige, Immortal Flight,” a solo show by artist Jennie Kimbrough. The exhibit opens on Friday, March 1, and runs through April 1. An opening reception and meet and greet with the artist will take place on Tuesday, March 19, from 6-9 pm.
"Mortal Vestige, Immortal Flight" is an exhibition of encaustic works that illustrate the dichotomy between the transitory nature of our flesh and the eternal nature of our souls. Each piece is based around a biblical verse, using symbolic objects and processes in order to illustrate both our ephemeral and permanent natures. These works deal with the concepts of pain, aging, emotional anguish, and death as indicators of the impermanence of our current existence. In contrast, the work also explores the possibility of permanence, perfection, and the holiness revealed through the soul, and its concurrent existence with the impermanent flesh.
The University Art Gallery is located on the Lower Level of the Education & Technology Center on the University’s Northeast Philadelphia campus. The exhibit is free and open to the public.
